Vida Chechman

Vida holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Kurdistan Hewlér in Erbil, Iraq, and is currently finishing her Master of Arts in Peace and Justice Studies at the University of San Diego. Due to growing up in an environment surrounded by conflict and instability, Vida was motivated to become a social worker and activist that can change her community for the better. Additionally, she has participated in many national and international youth exchange programs like the DMZ World Peace Pilgrimage for youth in South Korea which triggered in her a desire to engage the youth of her community in efforts to expand reconciliation and peaceful coexistence within their surroundings. She continued to increase her own awareness on the issues different communities face by becoming a program assistant for the United States Institute of Peace on Iraq and Syria programs. Furthermore, as a minoritized individual in a culturally and religiously diverse region, Vida continues her activism through her involvement and leadership in humanitarian and youth organizations that work to shape future leaders through leadership development.
