Irene Sanchez, Ph.D. is a Xicana, Mama, Educator, and an award winning Poet/Writer. She is author of the blog Xicana Ph.D. Dr. Sanchez currently teaches Raza Studies at three high schools in the San Gabriel Valley. A former community college student in the Inland Empire, Dr. Sanchez was on academic probation/dismissal after her first year of college. She then found her community and with the support of MEChA and through Ethnic Studies as well as programs like UCLA’s SITE, the Puente project and a few caring people, she became determined to transfer. Dr. Sanchez now has a BA in Latin American/Latino Studies & Sociology from UC Santa Cruz and a M.Ed. & Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Washington Seattle.
